Starcraft traces back to 1903, when Arthur Schrock bought into a small Indiana tank maker and turned it into a boat builder, first in galvanized steel and later in aluminum and fiberglass. The company changed hands more than once over the following decades, passing through a conglomerate and then Brunswick Corporation, before Schrock family descendants bought it back in the 1990s and merged its operations with Smoker Craft, another family-run Indiana boat builder with roots in the same era. That merger is why Starcraft and Smoker Craft share a factory and a lot of engineering underneath their different badges.

Today Starcraft's range runs from aluminum fishing and jon boats up through fiberglass deck boats and pontoons, built for lakes and rivers rather than open water. The aluminum side leans on a deep-V hull design the company helped popularize decades ago, and the pontoon and deckboat lines are what most casual buyers see first at a dealer. It is a family business rather than a corporate marine conglomerate brand, and that shows in a lineup built around value and everyday use rather than flagship models.

Owners tend to describe Starcraft boats as solid, unglamorous, and easy to live with, which is about the right expectation for a brand built on aluminum hulls and marine-grade flooring rather than showpiece styling. Parts and warranty service run through the same dealer network as Smoker Craft, so coverage is decent in the Midwest and thinner in places without a strong Starcraft or Smoker Craft dealer nearby. Resale holds up reasonably well for the fishing and pontoon models, less so for older fiberglass deckboats, which age less gracefully than the aluminum lines. Buyers who come back to the badge are usually anglers and family boaters who want a boat that starts every spring without drama, not people chasing performance numbers.
