Regal traces back to 1969, when Paul and Carol Kuck, along with two investors, opened Regal Marine Industries in Orlando, Florida, building a small line of ski boats and runabouts. The 1973 energy crisis nearly sank the young company, wiping out its initial investment, but the Kucks kept the doors open and rebuilt from six employees. Regal has stayed family owned and debt free ever since, and it's now run by the founders' sons, Duane and Tim Kuck, with a third generation of Kucks working in the business today.
The lineup today centers on fiberglass bowriders, deck boats, and sport cruisers, most riding on the FasTrac hull the company introduced in the 1990s to improve planing speed and handling. Regal builds both outboard powered runabouts and larger sterndrive cruisers, all assembled at its own Orlando plant rather than through outside contractors. The boats lean toward family use: cockpits built for towing and swimming, cabins on the bigger cruisers, and trim packages aimed at buyers who want more than a bare bones runabout.
Regal has picked up J.D. Power awards for owner satisfaction in the small runabout and express cruiser classes more than once, and that shows up in how long owners hang onto their boats before trading up within the brand. Parts and service run through a dealer network concentrated in the United States, with engines sourced from Mercury or Volvo Penta rather than built in house, so mechanical support isn't hard to find even at an independent shop. Resale holds up reasonably well for a mid size builder, though Regal doesn't have the international dealer reach of the largest conglomerate owned brands, and buyers looking for that global service net sometimes look elsewhere.
